RIP to one of the most important people in my young life and education, Amy Samson.

I just heard the heartbreaking news from a friend whose daughter currently attends her class at my old school.

Ms. Samson wasn’t just a teacher; she was a mentor, a guide, and someone who deeply influenced my development during those formative years.

When I first met her, I was an unsure and awkward student, grappling with both the challenges of school and the anxieties of youth.

Ms. Samson had a unique ability to make her classroom feel like a safe haven, where you could be yourself and still push yourself beyond your limits.

She saw potential in every student and took the time to nurture that spark.

Her passion for teaching wasn’t just about academics, though she excelled at making even the driest subjects come alive. She cared about us as people.

For me, Ms. Samson was the first person to really believe in my abilities.

She encouraged me to think critically, write with confidence, and speak my mind. I remember how she would hand back my assignments with thoughtful comments, not just about the work itself, but about how I was growing as a learner and a person.

Her support and encouragement helped build the foundation of my self-confidence, which I carry with me to this day.

I also admired her ability to connect with students on a personal level. She understood our struggles and always offered a listening ear and words of wisdom when needed.

Many of us would stay after class just to chat with her, knowing that her advice was always thoughtful and kind.

She had a way of making you feel like you mattered.

Ms. Samson’s passing is a great loss to everyone who knew her. Her impact on my life was profound, and I will forever be grateful for the lessons she taught me both in and out of the classroom.
