Cameron Powell Obituary: 36-year-old Vidor man named as construction contract worker who died in industrial accident at Jefferson County plant.

Cameron Powell, a 36-year-old construction contractor from Vidor, Texas, tragically died in an industrial accident on Thursday, October 3, 2024. 

Powell was working at the Beaumont Clean Ammonia plant, a project managed by OCI Global, in Jefferson County when the incident occurred. 

According to reports, Powell fell from a height of 60 to 70 feet while working inside a tank at the plant. 

Emergency services responded quickly, and he was transported to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

The accident occurred around 8:30 a.m., and investigations are underway to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal fall. 

The project, owned by Woodside Energy, had its operations temporarily halted as a safety precaution while authorities conduct their inquiry. 

Woodside’s CEO, Meg O’Neill, expressed her condolences to Powell's family, friends, and colleagues, emphasizing the company’s commitment to understanding the events that led to this tragic loss and ensuring the safety of its workers moving forward.

This incident has drawn attention to the importance of safety protocols in high-risk industrial environments, as Powell’s untimely death deeply affected the Vidor and Jefferson County communities.
