Mario Raso, a beloved teacher, coach, and mentor from Hamilton, Ontario, passed away suddenly on September 29, 2024, at the age of 60.

Known for his passion and dedication, Mario was a longtime educator at St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School, where he made a lasting impact on countless students and athletes.

Over his decades of service, he became a well-respected figure, both in the classroom and on the field, coaching soccer and hockey with great enthusiasm.

Mario was raised in Canada after being born in Calabria, Italy, in 1963.

His career in education began after studying at Mohawk College, McMaster University, and Brock University. Mario earned a reputation as a "tough but cool" teacher, who was passionate about engaging his students and challenging them to succeed.

Beyond teaching, he was also a certified soccer coach, leading high school teams and local clubs to numerous victories, including an OFSAA gold medal in 2022.

Outside of work, Mario was an avid athlete himself, excelling in soccer, hockey, and cycling, where he earned the nickname "the king of the mountains" for his endurance.

His love for sports was matched only by his devotion to his family and friends.

Mario was a loving brother, uncle, and great uncle, cherished for his kindness, wisdom, and infectious energy.

His sudden passing has left a profound void in the lives of his students, colleagues, and loved ones, who remember him for his unwavering positivity and selflessness.
