Nell Smith, Canadian Teenage Singer Known For Collaborations With The Flaming Lips Died After Car Accident At Age 17.

Nell Smith, a rising Canadian music talent, tragically passed away at the age of 17 following a car accident in early October 2024.

Known for her collaborations with the American band *The Flaming Lips*, Smith first gained attention for her album *Where The Viaduct Looms*, which featured covers of Nick Cave's songs.

This 2021 release, when she was only 14, showcased her prodigious talent and marked the beginning of her growing influence in the music world.

The project was the result of a unique partnership with *The Flaming Lips*, whom she first encountered at one of their concerts dressed as a parrot when she was 12. They later kept in touch, which led to their musical collaboration.

Smith was working on her debut solo album, slated for release in early 2025 under the Bella Union label, at the time of her untimely death. Her tragic passing has left the music community in shock.

Wayne Coyne, lead vocalist of *The Flaming Lips*, expressed deep sorrow during a performance in Portland, sharing the heartbreaking news with the audience.

Other tributes from the music world, including from her label and fans, highlighted her unique talent and the profound loss felt by many.

Her family confirmed the news on social media, expressing their immense grief and asking for privacy as they navigate the loss of their daughter, who had left a lasting impact in her short 17 years.

Smith's death is not only a personal tragedy for her loved ones but also a significant loss to the music world, which had seen only a glimpse of her potential.
